Steiner Teaches at Widener Law School

May 2007

R. James Steiner just returned from serving as an adjunct trial advocacy faculty member for the Widener Law School Intensive Trial Advocacy Program held on the campus of Widener Law School in Wilmington, Delaware. Since 1991 Steiner has volunteered annually to teach trial advocacy techniques to 2nd and 3rd year law students.

The program covers everything from examination techniques for friendly and hostile witnesses, to exhibit introduction, examination techniques for experts and effective skills for opening statements and closing arguments,” said Steiner. It culminates in a mock trial using actual jury members drawn from the local community. “Every year one of the students tries something during his or her direct examination, or cross examination, that teaches me something new, so it is always a two-way street in learning,” notes Jim. Even after 15 years Jim indicates he has no intention of curbing his involvement.

Jim is the only New Hampshire representative of the 50-60 faculty members, and one of only four representatives from New England. The faculty is drawn from across the country and includes state/federal judges and magistrates, assistant attorney generals, prosecutors and many in private practice, as is Jim.
